History of Afton, MN

Named after the poem by Robert Burns called Sweet Afton, the town was established in 1855 and the its very first post office just a couple of years later in 1857.  Located about 15 miles east of downtown St. Paul and south of Interstate 94 on the eastern section of the State, the city of Afton is almost 25.6 square miles and features a diverse land area that inculcates commercial, rural and agricultural districts. The commercial part of Afton is located in the Historic Village along the majestic St. Croix River.  Afton has maintained its rustic rural charm with about 2,800 residents making it the perfect place to enjoy small town living.
