History of Hugo, MN

The first to settle in Hugo were French Canadians. Early in its day the small settlement established itself as a refueling port for the Northern Pacific Railway.  The city is situated in Oneka Township.  Prior to being called Hugo, the settlement was originally called Centerville Station. The name Hugo was in honor of Trevanion William Hugo who was a mayor of Duluth.  The small settlement was first incorporated in 1906 and became a city only recently in 1972.

Blacksmith Lounge — If ever you are hungry for some broasted chicken then the Blacksmith Lounge is the place to be.  Pair it with their popular fish and chips.  Tuesday night is fish fry night as they serve huge portions of cod to diners.
