The weak economy has changed the housing market these past few years. People are staying in their homes longer because they are unable to get a new mortgage, are upside down in their current loan or just aren’t sure if now is a good time to buy a new home. Regardless of the reason many people are opting instead to remodel their current home. Often finding they are happier with the results because they get the home they have always wanted, remain in a home filled with memories and are able to stay in their current neighborhood.
Here are some of the top remodeling trends for 2014
Kitchen – The kitchen is always a top remodeling choice because it is the room we spend so much time in. Even if we aren’t cooking it is still the heart of the home. Today’s modern kitchen has all the amenities you’d expect in a kitchen but it also has high tech and a decidedly modern look to it. Gone are the warm colors of wood and earth tones used for so long. Now white cabinetry, stainless steel and granite give the modern kitchen a cooler look. Other trends of the kitchen include work stations or area where computers can be accessed and charged. Charging stations, TVs/Monitors and smart boards are all incorporated into the kitchen of today.
Bathrooms – Another room in the house that is at the top of the list when it comes to makeovers. Trends in the bathroom include separate tub and shower and built in shelving. Multiple shower heads and even temperature controlled medicine cabinets are all the rage as well.
Renewable materials – As we learn more about the environment and our impact on it we learn that certain home materials have to change. Carpeting that once was made with many toxic chemicals has gone greener, furniture as well. Sustainable flooring like bamboo is another way people are making the eco friendly step to being more energy efficient and environmentally conscious.
