Building Your Dream Home Step by Step is a new series where we share the process of building a home with Pratt Homes. If you’ve never worked with a custom home builder before, but are wondering what the process is, this is a series you’ll want to follow. From the Pre-Construction Meeting to Design Selection, Ground Breaking, Walk-Throughs and Finish Selections, this series will detail the process of building a custom home in the Twin Cities metro area.

In this installment of Building Your Dream Home Step by Step we’re going to talk about the selection process. This is where you and the Pratt Homes design team get together  in our Selection Center at the Pratt Homes office in Vadnais Heights.

Our designer meets with our suppliers on a regular basis to select the most unique, beautiful and value oriented products for our clients to choose from.  They assist you in making the color selections for your new home floor surfaces, paint colors, and all other materials pertaining to color. They will contact you to schedule two to three meetings of approximately 2 ½ hours each.

If there is existing furniture that you would like to incorporate in the interior design this is when that happens. You will be asked to bring along any fabrics or colors from your existing furniture pieces that you will be bringing to your new home.  It is also helpful to bring photographs of those pieces and any magazine clippings of a “look” or “feel” that you wish to achieve.  This helps our designers get to know your vision and assists them in helping you pull together your unique home.

The designer works very closely with the Pratt Project Coordinators in answering questions during color selections meetings with clients. We encourage clients to complete all of their color selections and sign off on these selections by the time framing of your home begins, so that all special order products can be ordered immediately and constructions schedules can be met.

The selection process is an exciting time in the home building process. You get to work with our skilled team of designers and you can really start to see your dream home come together.
