Cinco de Mayo

The annual Cinco de Mayo Festival, the largest Latino event in Minnesota, celebrates the West Side community’s Mexican heritage and Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The festival features a parade, a 5K, live music, a car and bike show, an authentic “placita” market and, of course, tons of delicious Mexican food. Learn about West Side’s rich history and bring the kids to the family zone for various cultural activities and learning. If you really want to turn up the heat, partake in the Jalapeño eating contest.

Mother’s Day Bonsai Show

Mother’s Day weekend marks the return of the Minnesota Bonsai Society Show, an extravaganza of elegantly trained trees arranged throughout the Visitor Center. If you’ve been wondering what it takes to grow your own, don’t miss the Mother’s Day Bonsai Show, which will feature dozens of privately-owned trees all trained by members of the Minnesota Bonsai Society. Members will be on hand all weekend to answer your questions about everything from taking care of Bonsai, to which trees work the best. This is a unique opportunity to see beautiful privately owned bonsai, along with Como’s vast collection on May 13 and 14 from 10am-6pm.

MN Walk t End HIV

This year, the 34th Annual MN Walk to End HIV will be held at Como Midway Picnic Pavilion on Saturday, May 13th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Through the years, the Walk has raised more than $15 million to provide HIV testing and prevention, access to health care resources, emergency assistance, advocacy and so much more to people living with HIV. By participating in the Walk to End HIV, you will be making a difference in the lives of over 2,500 Minnesotans that Rainbow Health serves each year.

Join this historic community event that raises support for all those affected by HIV, honors those in the community we’ve lost in our fight to end HIV, and learn about the steps we’re taking to build a future without HIV. The event will feature special speakers and performances, food trucks, sponsors, exhibitors, and more!

So rally your friends, family, colleagues, and loved ones to join us at the MN Walk to End HIV and take steps toward ending HIV.

Train Days at the James J Hill House

All Aboard for all-ages fun at the James J. Hill House!

Come check out the impressive mansion railroad tycoon James J. Hill built, the brand new Call of Trains photography exhibit in the art gallery, and enjoy a variety of fun activities throughout the day. The House will be open 10 am–4 pm.  Guided tours are not available during Train Days, however the home will be available for self-guided visitation.
