No-one wants to get robbed on Christmas Eve, so the following infographic has a checklist for you to look over if you’ll be away from home over the holidays this season.

Make your home appear occupied

Leave a light on inside of your home or set your lights on timers.
Never leave a note on your door.
Keep blinds partially open adn give the house a lived in appearance. Make sure nothing of value can be seen from the window. (Note: it may be a better idea to simply keep your blinds closed while you’re away.)
Cancel your regular deliveries, milk,  newspapers, etc so that the stockpile doesn’t give you away. You can also ask your neighbor or a friend to gather these things for your.
Tell your neighbors you’ll be out of town and ask them to keep an eye on your house.
Ask a friend or neighbor to park a car in your driveway from time to time.

Make things difficult for potential thieves

Lock away all portable garden equipment, tools, ladders, or anything that can be used to break into your home.
Lock your garage.
Lock all doors and windows!
Take your keys or leave them with a friend. Do not hide them!
Remove all money and valuables to a safe place, such as your bank.
Notify your local police of  your absence.
