Now is a great time to start thinking about remodeling your home. Whether you’re considering a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel or even finishing the basement so you have a family room or game room, now is the perfect time to start getting your ducks in a row.
Home remodels and renovations are not inexpensive. A bathroom remodel can reach $10k pretty quickly and that’s where most kitchen remodels begin, so you want to do your homework  before signing any contract. Here are some tips to get you organized for an upcoming home remodel.
Now is a Great Time to Think about Remodeling
Hiring a Remodeler – Hiring a reputable home remodeler is going to be the best decision you make. If you don’t already have a home remodeler in mind talk to family and friends who have recently remodeled their homes in the Twin Cities. Get names of the remodelers they have used and who they recommend. It’s important to research any contractor before you sign a contract. Google the businesses and check out Yelp for reviews. Angie’s List is another good place to find local contractors if you don’t have a referral from friends of family. When you’ve whittled your list down a bit you can meet with the remodelers and then make your choice.
Ask Questions – When meeting with a potential remodeler be sure to ask questions. Ask about any warranties they might provide for their work and products they install. Ask about their time frame and how they plan on keeping you updated about the project. Be sure to ask about the price, and how much change orders will add to the final cost – before you start making changes.
Tour Remodeled Homes – Pratt Remodeling has several Remodeling Home Tours each year. If you’d like to be invited to our home tours be sure to join our mailing list. We’ll send you invitations to these private events at customers homes so you can see the work and talk to the home owner about their experience.
Remodelers Showcase – The Parade of Homes is over now, but we’re already planning the Spring Tour. Tour as many homes as time permits so you can get an idea of the kind of remodel you want to do and how you’d like it to look.
Pinterest – You know you want a kitchen remodel, but you aren’t sure how you want the finished product to look then start on Pinterest. You’ll see so many great before and after photos you’ll quickly get an idea of what you want.
Houzz – Houzz is another great place to start your remodeling project. You can see before and after images as well as read stories by homeowners about the process – including any pitfalls to avoid.
These are just some of the ways you can start planning your remodeling project now, even if you don’t plan on starting the project until next year. If you’d like to learn more about the remodeling process and what you can expect please give us a call at 651-429-8032.
