Last week in the Building Your Dream Home Step by Step series we talked about the foundation that had just been completed in our newest spec home in Twenty-One Oaks of Woodbury, MN. Since that time the plumbing rough-in has been completed and the project is moving along on schedule.
Prior to this step, but not photographed, is the vapor barrier installation. Before the floor is poured a poly vapor barrier is installed on top of the ground to prevent moisture from seeping into the concrete.
A feature worth noting is the thermo break. The thermo break is a barrier installed along the perimeter of the concrete foundation. We use an R-10 and an R-5 for a total R value of 15, which is affordable, efficient and eco-friendly. It provides affordable heating and cooling. You can see the thermo break in the photo below. Click here to see the foundation step in the home building process to get a better view of the thermo break before the concrete has been poured.
During the plumbing rough-in all water supply pipes and drain pipes have been installed in the floors where needed. Where you see pipe jutting out of the concrete slab is where walls will be framed up or where showers, tubs, sinks etc.. will be installed when the finish work starts.
The next step after the plumbing rough-in is the framing. As you can see, the framing is already in process.
The Conifer is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom floor plan with 3 car garage. It is an on-grade design with 1,793 square feet of space. The master bath includes a soaking tub and a separate walk-in shower, two vanity sinks and a private toilet area, all require water pipes and drain pipes, all of which are connected within the slab. The second bath, laundry and kitchen also require multiple supply and drain pipes.
